Time/miles per day

I don't recall the weight of my pack and have since given it away. I would
suppose it weighed not much more than three or four pounds, however. The
conventional wisdom is that you should carry as little weight as possible,
preferably under 20 pounds, better yet under 15. Despite serious effort on
my part to follow that advice I was never able to get below even the 20
pound mark. Then again, I took things along the average person probably
would leave behind. If you are in relative good health, reasonably fit, and
reject the idea you must slavishly maintain a particular schedule of
advance, I doubt you will have any problems. If it becomes necessary, you
can always mail excess baggage to the post office in Santiago.
