Hi Jessica, I got the passport at Roncesvalles, both times, and no one asked me for a recommendatory letter, which I didn't have. It might be a good idea to have one just in case, but I don't remember anyone asking for one, or producing one. I will ask though, and will report back. Saludos, Rosina
