Below are comments on X.1 - X.3 which I assigned to myself.

Number: 1

Subclause: X.1

Page/Line: 2/23

Type: Editorial

Problem: Refers to an unnumbered draft

Change: Delete “all-20190708”

Number: 2

Subclause: X.2.1

Page/Line: 3/2

Type: Editorial

Problem: binary16 column is too wide

Change: Make the binary16 column the same width as the other binaryN columns

Number: 3

Subclause: X.2.1

Page/Line: 3/4

Type: Editorial

Problem: Parameter column is too wide

Change: Adjust column widths

Number: 4

Subclause: X.2.1

Page/Line: 3/25

Type: Editorial

Problem: Saying “shall provide” indicates a statement of requirement, whereas, it’s actually noting an existing requirement in 6.2.5.

Change: Replace “shall provide” with “provides” and add “(6.2.5)” at the end of the sentence.

Number: 5

Subclause: X.2.3

Page/Line: 4/21

Type: Editorial

Problem: “mitigate intermediate overflow, underflow, and round-off error” could be clearer.

Change: Replace “mitigate intermediate overflow, underflow, and round-off error” with “often mitigate round-off error and eliminate overflow and underflow in intermediate computations”.

Number: 6

Subclause: X.2.4

Page/Line: 5/29

Type: Editorial

Problem: Use of “all” in “which all have radix 2” doesn’t seem right. It almost suggests an implementation might choose different radixes for its different standard floating types.

Change: Replace “which all have radix 2” with “which always have radix 2” and replace “which all have radix 10” with “which always have radix 10”.

Number: 7

Subclause: X.2.4

Page/Line: 6/32

Type: Editorial

Problem: This sentence isn’t needed. The implementation can’t provide binary floating types unless it defines __STDC_IEC_60559_BFP__ which implies FLT_RADIX is 2.

Change: Delete the sentence.

If WG 14 affirms is earlier decision, the TS3 annex will be added to the C2X draft. If not, we plan to include it in an updated TS3. Either way, your review is a valuable service to everyone who will be completing, publishing, implementing, or using the specification in the future.
