I agree about the first two, although I prefer the second because
'magnitude' implying 'absolute value' isn't in my (Oxford) dictionary (i.e.,
it's jargon) whereas 'absolute value' is.

The third, to me, is ambiguous .. in the negative case I think 'is too
small' is meant?
